Just a heads up that over the next few days I’m going to be re-organizing and re-arranging things here and trying out a few things — and possibly abandoning some things that I try.
One thing … we have crossed over into the “one year to go” phase for Warner Brothers Tarzan 2016 and I have to confess I’m getting twitchy about that, meaning I’m getting the urge to write about it, and about Tarzan. so for the moment I’ve done a reorganization of John Carter Files into two divisions — The John Carter Files and The Tarzan Files. I don’t know if that will really hold up, but it gives me a conceptual framework to start writing on some of the Tarzan related topics that are popping into my head. And to answwer the inevitable question — absolutely I’m a fan of the Tarzan books. My first ERB book was Tarzan the Terrible, and then my second outing was two books — Llana of Gathol, introducing me to Barsoom, and Tarzan and the Lost Empire. I then went back and caught up on all of the books, but that was how it started for me, and Tarzan was pretty much co-equal to John Carter, although I guess to be completely honest I’d have to say that Barsoom captivated me in a special way that outpointed Tarzan’s Africa (or Pellucidar, or Amtor, or Caspak) …. but not by a whole lot. And as a cultural phenomenon worthy of attention — Tarzan far exceeds John Carter.
Anyway … it’s also time to get rid of some of the clutter, clean things up a bit overall.
I’m open to any notes or suggestions …. otherwise I will work away happily for a few days and see what I come up with. There will be some new articles appearing no doubt, probably mostly about Tarzan unless something breaks with John Carter.
Here we go.
